Located in the far southwest of Senegal, within the natural region of Casamance, the Department of
Oussouye is home to one of the country’s oldest kingdoms. This cosmopolitan area is endowed with
significant cultural wealth. The Ajamaat (Joola) ethnic group forms the majority population, known for
its strong attachment to ancestral values and its resilience to the influence of monotheistic religions
and modernity.
At the heart of Oussouye lies the Kingdom of Búbajum Áyi, composed of thirteen villages and led by
King Sibilumbay Diédhiou, the foremost religious and moral authority of the realm.
The Búbajum Áyi Association positions itself as a cultural ambassador, dedicated to preserving,
promoting, and celebrating the Ajamaat heritage through the creative expressions of artists Adiatta &
Princess Éka.
Adiatta is an outstanding player of the Ékontiŋ, a renowned three-stringed musical instrument of the Joola people. With this
traditional Ajamaat instrument — whose enchanting melodies are gracefully accompanied by a few subtle percussions — the
talented artist, together with the captivating singer Princess Éka, known for her golden voice, brings to life the rich culture
and traditions of the Ajamaat people across Senegal.
His artistic journey began in 2008 in Cap Skirring, performing in local lodges, bars, and hotels throughout the Oussouye
Department (Casamance, Senegal). Highly appreciated by music lovers, Adiatta’s unique style lies in the diversity of sounds
and dance rhythms accessible to all audiences. It was within this dynamic that the idea of releasing singles was born in
February 2018, a project successfully realized in December 2018.
