WAI = WATER ORA = LIFE

WAI ORA sees WAI again follow in the footsteps of their ancestors to guide their path forward.

Te Reo (the Māori language) with its eloquence, natural rhythm, flow and percussiveness and Poi rhythms (inspired by their childhood experiences in kapa haka groups) are the root and inspiration for WAI’s music.

Traditional Māori music is chant like and complex, moving forward almost without a break or pause. Great importance is attached to the correctness and continuous delivery of the words.

WAI employ these traditional aspects in their music causing the songs to flow in uninterrupted patterns somewhat like Māori oratory and draw on traditional monotonal Māori song forms (waiata) and more modern melodic styles (waiata-a-ringa, or action songs).

WAI ORA intensifies their exploration confidently evolving 100%’s blueprint to boldly realise their vision.
