Roberto Fonseca the restless pianist/composer yearns for the discovery of the roots and origin of Cuban music, pre-revolution. Seeking out the sounds of the masters like Miguel Matamoros or Las Hermanas Faez has suggested many possibilities of bridging the gap of these classic sounds and the modern predecessor, like an original santiaguera rumba with contemporary mambo, blurring boundaries between styles and decades. Stereotypes of modern and old are dismissed in this project. Sheer passion for bringing popular musical genres of the forties or fifties and combining contemporary rhythms and sounds in a sound that is uniquely Fonseca.
