Córas Trio reinvent the spontaneous to create their avantgarde folk, deconstructing traditional melodies and reassembling them within spaces of fiery poly-rhythmic jazz improvisations and serene pastoral reflection, weaving in and out of compelling textures that foreground fiddle, guitar and percussion with transcendental electronics, juxtaposing elements of collective free improvisation with proper seisiún-style playfulness. Beginning life as a series of experimental sessions between fiddler Kevin McCullagh and drummer Conor McAuley, before fully assuming its previously unpredictable shape with the arrival of guitarist Paddy McKeown, Córas Trio are part of a new creative wave of musicians based in Belfast exploring how traditional music relates to the experience of the 21st century, challenging ideas of cultural purism, sweeping away the lines of contemporary musical practice, unafraid and unapologetic in their exploration of new ideas.
