At the beginning of 60's Giovanna Marini meets a group of intellectuals as Pier Paolo Pasolini and Italo Calvino so she discovers the social song and the sung oral history. Since then she continues the collection of songs of oral tradition and their study and transcription, inventing for this purpose a system of musical notation. Such job of transcription and then of arrangement allowed her to transport the memory sung on the stage.
In 1976 she creates the Quartetto Vocale, fulfillment of all its musical experiences like the search on the songs of oral tradition, instrumental and vocal composition, individual and collective writing, for which she composes "Cantate", from "Correvano coi carri" to the most recent "Sibemolle" or "La Cantata del secolo Breve". On the other hand her continuous musical activity led her to compose also for the cinema: with directors as Loy, Maselli, Pietrangeli and for the theatre, between which numerous Greek tragedies. In 2002 she records with Francesco De Gregori "Il fischio del vapore", she composes musics for Villarosa, drama of Enzo Alaimo, showed at the Festival di Gibellina. She participates to the theatrical show Urlo from Pippo Delbono, and performed the cantata La torre di Babele at Festival of Avignon. With the most recent "Cantata per Aquileia" the Vocal Quartet has played last August to the Mittelfest of Moni Ovadia.
