Akoustikòs - Vol1 by the Sicilian band Agricantus is finally out, thanks to CNI Music - Compagnia Nuove Indye, the historic Italian world music label (Enzo Avitabile, Re Niliu,, Almamegretta, Nidi D'Arac, TaranProject, Sud Sound System, etc.).
The album release party last week in Rome was intense and highly emotional. When the album arrived promptly at 9 pm, the band was among cheering friends and some lucky fans gathered to listen to their new album for the first time after it was officially out. Making the whole evening even more special, Agicantus hosted the event at Factory In Funzione, a tiny creative space in Rome.
With the new amazing singer Anita Vitale on rhodes and piano, this was a top concert. The band, also including Mario Crispi on archaic wind instruments and voice, Mario Rivera on acoustic bass and voice, and Giovanni Lo Cascio on drums and percussion, presented their new opus with pride and enthusiasm. Mostly based on beautifully re-arranged tracks from their old repertoire, I enjoyed heartfelt, slow songs like “Istanbul", " Sentimentu", " Carizzi r'amuri". They resonated in the same way, as testament to the magic and organic touch Agricantus brought on the whole album. Infectious tunes like "Azalai" or "Qanat" kicked off with a groovy driving mood. The whole concert set the standard for many more shows to come.
Don't wait. Book the band now! Buy the album!
