Traces & Roots (2024) marks a new milestone in the career of Italian-Indian singer, composer, producer, music therapist, and travel enthusiast Namritha Nori.

Picture a set of Matryoshka nesting dolls, each one illustrating the unity of body, soul, mind, heart, and spirit. Namritha Nori's music embodies the intricate layers of a diverse heritage, blending the melodies of the Mediterranean, the rhythms of the Middle East, and the spirit of India. Each song Namritha creates is like a doll within a doll, revealing deeper connections and more profound emotions as one delves further into her work.

From her classical training as opera singer at the C. Pollini Conservatory of Padova to her explorations of Sephardic music, Namritha's journey is a testament to her various roots. Italian of Indian descent, she traveled to Beirut to study classical Arabic music, to Istanbul for Anatolian folk music, and to her motherland for Dhrupad and Hindustani music. Those experiences have only added to the rich tapestry of her sound.

In 2015, Namritha Nori teamed up with guitarist Giulio Gavardi to form Mi Linda Dama, with the mission of breathing new life into the music of the Sephardic diaspora. Together, they crafted a fresh, contemporary take on this rich musical tradition. Their albums Matesha (2017) and Skalerica (2019) beautifully showcase their talent for blending diverse styles into a captivating and unique fusion.

Traces & Roots is available as an album and live performance. Contact us for more details. Let's the magic happen in 2025.

Namritha's own words on Traces & Roots
:
I am an Indian - Italian singer and composer based between Istanbul and Venice.
My work embodies the musical research of what I consider my multiple roots, the lands where I grew up and worked, from the Mediterranean to India across the Middle East.

I studied opera vocal performance at the C. Pollini Conservatory of Padova, collaborating with the MuenchenerBachChor of Munich.

After graduating in 2012, I approached Sephardic music, my biggest love, as well as Mediterranean folklore, until the important voyage to my motherland India in 2017, which allowed me to explore dhrupad and Hindustani music and marked the beginning of my research to the Middle East.

I spent time in Beirut to study the classical Arabic repertoire, and in Istanbul, where I approached Anatolian folk music.

In 2015 I founded the band "Mi Linda Dama" (http://www.milindadama.com/) starting from a personal appropriation of the diaspora Sephardic repertoire . We recorded two albums, Matesha in 2017, Skalerica in 2019 and we performed live at many concerts and world, jazz, folk music festivals across Italy.

My travels increasingly shaped my musical identity and the desire to compose my own music, which has brought me to this new personal project, recorded partly in Italy and partly in Turkey: "Traces and Roots", a dialogue between my cultural heritages, from West to East.

I hope to see you soon!
