Lithuanian music theatre productions in Rotterdam

Confessions
Have a Good Day!

Two of the most prominent and fresh music theatre projects from Lithuania will be presented at the music theatre festival Operadagen Rotterdam, an associated event of the Classical:NEXT.

Have a Good Day!, an opera for 10 singing cashiers, supermarket sounds and piano is intended as an introduction to the Classical:NEXT opening ceremony. The performance is held at 19:00-20:00 in Rotterdamse Schouwburg (just across the square from de Doelen) on Wednesday, the 17th of May, and there is a special discount for Classical:NEXT delegates. This concert is just before the official Classical:NEXT Opening – just in time for you do see both!

Operomanija is a production house and multidisciplinary art movement founded in 2008 in Lithuania. Among its projects, the opera Have a Good Day! has garnered acclaim and achieved worldwide success: from Shanghai to New York, from Paris to Moscow (its libretto is translated into 11 languages). The work is equal parts social justice and entertainment. The New York Times critic praised it as ‘clever, charming and quietly subversive.’

The second contemporary opera Confessions will be presented at the Noletloodsen Schiedam in 18th and 19th of May (at 19:00 and 22:00). The makers behind this special performance met up a few years ago with one communal goal in mind. That is to say, to create an opera in the dark. Confessions is the result. The three makers based their libretto on the seven mortal sins and offer the (blind-folded) audience plenty of food for thought. Visiting the performance is an extremely intense experience. Being without sight reinforces the other senses, such as hearing and smell. The big question is whether all of the sounds that you appear to hear really exist. Immerse yourself in a creative experiment in the dark!
