The leader of the Iraqi Maqam Ensemble is renowned scholar of Iraqi classical music. He is also a versatile musician on the jozza, the fiddle like traditional instrument from Iraq. For this solo album he composed and arranged music based on traditional tunes with The Vogel Quartet, a Dutch jazz ensemble, and Indian tabla player Sandip Bhattacharya. In this case western jazz meets middle eastern music rather then the -usual- other way around.
