Majestic, multi-layered, ethereally evocative of Icelandic expanses, the music of Hugar has been quietly making waves since the release of their self-produced album in 2014, which went on to amass upward of 30 million streams on Spotify alone. Hugar translates as 'minds', and the minds melding in Hugar belong to keyboardist and trombonist Bergur Þórisson, and guitarist and keyboardist, Pétur Jónsson. Friends since childhood from the sleepy township of Seltjarnarnes, they have both carved out their separate careers on the Icelandic contemporary scene, working with luminaries such as Björk, Sigur Rós, Ólafur Arnalds and Jóhann Jóhannson. They finally began writing music together in 2013 and the success of their debut album led to a signing with Sony Masterworks in 2019, releasing two more albums to date, Varda and the soundtrack for the film Vasulka.
