Rona Nishliu Duo at Belgrade Philarmonic Hall

Festival „Miredita, dobar dan!“: Rona Nishliu Duo at Belgrade Philharmonic Hall

An enchanting and strong melody, nostalgically magnetic, a true symphony of multiplied voices and a piano just like a clear body of water here where, which in their syncopathic contemplation drips towards your hearing, thus spreading the freshness all around – ah, it was truly an exciting concert of the singer from Pristina, Rona Nishliu and her intense pianist comrade on the stage of the Belgrade Philharmonic Hall, at the very start of an intriguing festival “Miredita, dobar dan!”.

How much, or if we know anything at all about the Albanian national and city music, what kind of associations it awakens within us in a contemporary, highly improvised and instrumental interpretation of Rona Nishliu Dua, whether it is close to us in some ways and what is that new and enigmatically inescapable in its ancient being, all of these are questions that Rona Nishliu, an artist known and recognized throughout Europe (highly positioned at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku), she answered through this Belgrade concert with her voice and understanding of a rich cultural heritage.

By coming onto the stage hand-in-hand with her pianist, singing clearly the whole way, with the sound of ancient blues and soul that feeds all of your senses, Rona Nishliu Duo almost brings tears to your eyes – with sounds of sighing, breathing, shrieking, stepping, vibrations produced with every component of the piano and the body, tongue sounds, thumps, deep hums, finger snaps, shaking in their endless melancholy and joy, unusually close and dear, on the wheels of a fiery rhythm, a hypnotic eros, female and male self-consciousness like the bitter and sweet, wild folklore flora, but also urban sensibility, new times and strong forthcoming of jazz and popular culture. Rona Nishliu Duo has shaken your entire perception in a truly noble musical way. A genuine message of love.
