Ugia Pedreira has been a driving force in Galician music, both on stage and behind the scenes, for over two decades. First gaining recognition with three albums with her folk group, Chouteira, she has, since the 1990s, been a constant presence in Galician rock music with three major bands: Xenreira, Nen@s da Revolta, and A Matraca Preversa. In 2000, she founded the Conservatory of Traditional and Folk Music in Lalín, and is the creator and director of the Galician Popular Music Center - aCentral Folque. As a singer, songwriter and performer, she has collaborated across musical styles on a wide range of projects. Her 2024 solo work, Basal, explores her matrilineal heritage through a rhythmic palette of organic and electronic instruments, between rave and party, jazz club and 80s disco, tribal dance and spiritual rituals.
