Mediva is a medieval ensemble with a difference! Famed for their innovative interpretations, inspired stage presentation and rock and roll attitude, they are making a splash wherever they perform….
Specialists from around Europe performing on a weird and wonderful array of medieval and Arabic instruments, Mediva has developed a new approach to early music - no longer trying to recreate the past but using the music as an inspiration for a new sound world and concert experience, relying heavily on improvisation. The group also experiments with modern composition, specially commissioned for the ensemble and works with funk, rock and world musicians for several cross-over projects.
Concerts range from theatrically inspired performances to medieval jam sessions and the group is equally at home performing at Early Music Festivals, a classical concert series or at jazz clubs and night clubs.
Mediva is a flexible ensemble, ranging in size and featuring singers and instrumentalists as needed for each programme. It is also a show case for some of the hottest talent in Europe and collectively members have performed with leading ensembles like Les haulz et les Bas, Micrologus, Ensemble Unicorn, Freiburger Spielleuter, Alla Francesca and Ensemble Gilles Binchois.
