Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté is a central figure in contemporary Malian music. As the voice of Trio Da Kali she has helped bring Mandingo culture to a wider international audience through their acclaimed work with the Kronos Quartet. Hawa is the daughter of legendary Malian singer Kassé Mady Diabaté, often referred to as “the golden voice of Mali”, who passed away suddenly in 2018 while working on his seventh album. In 2023 Hawa resumed work on it, completing the recordings he had begun and writing the title track, Toumaro (See You Soon), infusing the project with poignant personal depth. Released in 2025, it gained the number one position in several world music charts. With her band of esteemed musicians, Hawa reflects a seamless blend of tradition and innovation, carrying the torch of the griot tradition forward.
