Nigerian singer and guitarist Adédèjì Adetayo took to Roskilde Festival's Avalon stage in 2023, performing with his 9m/k tall band in front of 5000 people. The concert was part of a tour that took them to major festivals across Europe after Adédèjì received several awards and international praise for his explosive mix of Afrobeat and funk. Adédèjì has also recorded and shared stages with Tony Allen, Lionel Loueke, Gene Jackson, Lagbaja, Ayo Bankole, Paco Sery, Keziah Jones, Fred Wesley and Fra Fra Sound and opened for the likes of Manu Dibango and Kenny Garrett.
Adédèjì most recently released ‘Yoruba Odyssey’, which also incorporated elements of jazz, soul, blues and the traditional Yoruba music of his upbringing. The album was recorded over three days in Lagos, Nigeria, at Afrodisia/Decca Studio, which has hosted giants like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey and many more.
The nine-piece band includes some of Nigeria's best musicians, with a groovy rhythm and horn section meeting explosive Afrobeat and gospel backing vocals.
