An inside look at Christopher Kirkley's project Sahel Sounds, which began as a blog to spread field recordings, evolved into a record label and now serves as a platform to explore arts and music of the Sahel region through non-traditional ethnographic fieldwork. Not a strict portrait, nor a straight music documentary, a story of Sahel Sounds bridges cultural as well as geographical distances. It celebrates musical performances of current artists from Niger, while leaving room to reflect on today's role of ethnomusicology.
neopankollektiv was founded as an interdisciplinary collective by Florian Kläger, Lisa Sperling, Tobias Adam and Markus Milcke in the summer of 2014. Projects are made in different constellations and without given roles. Everything is equal, flexible and open. a story of Sahel Sounds is the second film project by neopankollektiv.
Norient – Network for Local and Global Sounds and Media Culture - will introduce the screening.
