Session 13

Chaired by Elena Kountidou (Greece/Germany), head of communications & digital mediation, Konzerthaus Berlin

Virtual and augmented reality is a topic at the tip of everyone's tongue and no longer limited to the gaming world. Unlike previous media formats, these immersive technologies allow the viewer to actively decide for themselves which perspective they want to watch from. For the cultural sector, digital transformation represents a challenge, as well as an opportunity, that raises the following questions: How can we present content in the digital space in order to offer new perspectives to those in the know, as well as to accommodate people without prior knowledge? How can digital projects within organisations be meaningfully embedded within the overall programme? What financial and human resources are needed for this? When does it make sense and when not?

The Berlin Konzerthaus makes use of augmented and virtual reality elements, smartphone apps, VR glasses, streamings and games to reach as many people as possible. Existing expertise was developed and innovative formats were created over the course of the pandemic and in this session, Elena Kountidou tells us more about the experiences, learning lessons and challenges throughout the process.
