It has been 11 years since WOMEX was last held in the UK, a period marked by major changes, including Brexit. Back in 2013, during WOMEX's Cardiff edition, the Horizons Partnership was formed—a coalition of the UK and Ireland's Arts Councils and Cultural Agencies, the British Council and British Underground. This alliance has since provided a dedicated support network and contact point for UK and Irish delegates at WOMEX. In 2024, Brighter Sound launched its own WOMEX legacy programme 'We The Leaders', further building on this momentum.

This session explores why WOMEX is an ideal platform for growing initiatives, with insights on fostering connections, engaging younger audiences, and developing educational activities. Through the WOMEX Academy, many artists and music professionals have advanced their international careers. We’ll also discuss how these networks and new initiatives have broadened access and participation, and explore ways to expand and strengthen these efforts going forward.
