Singer and songwriter Karyna Gomes was born in Bissau, daughter of a Guinean father and Cape Verdean mother. She says her musicality is rooted in backyard socializing, and is today influenced by her experience in three continents: Africa, Latin America and Europe. Her musical career began in Brazil, in the gospel group, Rejoicing Mass Choir based in São Paulo, where she lived for five years. After returning to her native country, she was invited by Adriano Ferreira (Atchutchi) to join the revolutionary group, Super Mama Djombo. In 2011 she moved to Portugal, leaving behind a career in Communication for Development, to follow her musical dreams. In 2014 she released her debut album, Mindjer, which earned her two awards in Guinea-Bissau, followed in 2021 by N'na, an assured and joyous blend of Afro-pop, soul-jazz and electro-grooves.
