Kobo Town was founded in 2004 by émigré Trinidadian songwriter Drew Gonsalves, whose consistent championing of calypso has helped revive interest in the form world-wide. The Toronto-based, JUNO Award winning group has brought their distinct calypso-inspired sound to delighted audiences from Port-of-Spain to Paris and from Montreal to Malaysia. In 2013 Gonsalves teamed up with Belizean producer Ivan Duran for the album, Jumbie in the Jukebox, a partnership that has continued through co-writing and producing, along with Manu Chao, Calypso Rose's platinum-selling comeback album in 2016, and Kobo Town's 2017 release, Where the Galleon Sank. That album's infectious grooves and incisive lyrics are suffused with references to all of calypso's varied stylistic epochs, a labour of deep love and applied knowledge, creating uplifting music for the mind and body.
