An interactive discussion and exchange between artists and labels about their experiences of releasing records. The focus will be on the advantages and disadvantages of being signed by a label, against the artist navigating the release on their own. The session will include the following issues: is it worth it for an artist to give up master rights and share the revenue? Do current digital opportunities and tools make a record company unnecessary? What is needed for a label to be successful producing and marketing music? The dynamic landscape, endless opportunities to reach customers through the internet and fast digitisation allow easier production and marketing of music, but at the same time make it harder to reach the audiences on an internet overflowing with music.
