In fifteen years of hyperactivity, Danish sextet Mames Babegenush have honed themselves into a singularly impressive unit, bridging the East to the North, the past to the future, diligently assimilating the essence of East European klezmer and other itinerant folk traditions, finding their own expression within.
Experiences from their extensive touring in Europe and the Americas and gracing stages from New York’s Carnegie Hall to the Teatro Independencia in Buenos Aires, have informed their development over five acclaimed albums, each marking an arc of excellence from the bristling dexterity of their 2009 debut, Klezmer Killed the Radio Star to their recent With Strings, recorded live with the addition of the Nordic string quartet, LiveStrings, bringing forward a more reflective but no less ecstatic mood. Undoubtedly the best Danish klezmer band in the world – and more.
