Record labels have been challenged heavily by the digital revolution and all its consequences, as the blessings of technological progress have turned out to be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, completely new opportunities have emerged for recording, marketing and distribution, but on the other, global competition and pricing pressure are more intense than ever before. While both listeners and artists have been empowered, what is the role of next generation record labels in this dynamic, innovation-driven environment? How can they assert themselves on the market? What does it take for them to maintain a competitive edge or even gain new ones? The three panelists, each representing a different, unique approach, discuss their perspectives and future strategies.
