Duration 25' | German Sign Language with English subtitles

Emerging from five months of participatory research by a group of d/Deaf and hard of hearing people and Donnarumma – himself late-deafened, Niranthea is a short film blending documentary and audiovisual synaesthesia to tackle deafhood, prosthetics and the cyborg. By weaving the group's unscripted dialogues into a sonic and visual composition created by subverting AI algorithms found in hearing aids and implants, the film celebrates modes of perception that dethrone the audist dogma of ‘normal’ hearing.

Marco Donnarumma is an artist, performer, stage director and theorist weaving together contemporary performance, new media art and interactive computer music. He is internationally acknowledged for solo performances, stage productions and installations that defy genres, and where the body becomes a morphing language to speak critically of ritual, power and technology.

Producer Kotryna Slapsinskaite will be present for the screening and the Q&A.
