Noise music in Indonesia is gaining momentum. Starting from ‘noise bombing’ in the streets, small gigs in art galleries, clubs and larger festivals, it is not uncommon for Indonesian noise acts to tour Asia, Europe as well as America. As one of the collectives that introduced noise to the public with its ‘noise bombing’ movement and annual festival, Jogja Noise Bombing provides a platform for many noise acts to network with each other at a global level. This film presents a raw portrait of the vibrant Yogyakarta noise scene.
Hilman Fathoni conducts underground ephemera archival initiatives through projects like Perpustaxaan and Jogja Sonic Index. Perpustaxaan deals with audio and text archive that mostly come from Indonesia's hardcore-punk context. Meanwhile, Jogja Sonic Index played a role as a note-taker for Yogyakarta's electronic and experimental music scene.
