Duration 29’ | Portuguese, English, Quimbundo with English subtitles

Two beings from a distant time and space, immune to almost everything, burned themselves physically and mentally upon contact with the current normality. Since then, they have been stuck between returning to a reset point or provoking utopian-sounding answers. Featuring conversations on key topics such as water, mobility, fair trade, mental health and complicity, contact with reels with field recordings made by Hugh Tracey in 1950s Angola, time travel and the obsessive use of drum machines of the 80s.

Pedro Coquenão was born in Huambo, Angola, and raised in the suburbs of Lisbon, Portugal. He creates and interacts with music, dance, visual, plastic and radio arts under the name Batida, meaning 'beat' in Portuguese and relating to the dance music culture of Luanda.

Batida aka Pedro Coquenão will be present at WOMEX 21 and there will be a Q&A after the screening.
