An Orchester im Treppenhaus programme is not like your average chamber concert. They play music for partying, music for a festival or a rave.

Rather than acting like a traditional prim-and-proper chamber orchestra, Orchester im Treppenhaus (‘Staircase Orchestra’) take cues from acts like Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem. Their instrumentation can switch from smooth, string-laden interludes to raucous, Charles Mingus-like blasts of horn and percussion.

An Orchester im Treppenhaus performance is an invitation to get out on the floor and dance along; it’s a nod to the iPod generation raised on myriad styles and flavours of music. It’s a musical feast, with the appetiser, main course and dessert all served at once.
