In 2018, the Pan-Indigenous Network first came together at WOMEX in Gran Canaria, creating a space for Indigenous artists and cultural leaders to connect, share experiences and strengthen relationships across borders. Eight years later, we return to where the journey began.
This facilitated conversation brings together Indigenous voices from across the Network to reflect on the journey so far: what WOMEX has made possible, the relationships and opportunities that have grown, the lessons we have learned, and the challenges that remain. Together, we will reflect on why this space was created, what it has enabled for Indigenous artists and communities, and why this work continues to matter.
The session also acknowledges how this journey has informed an emerging Declaration Plan, grounded in the principles of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
