This session examines reggaeton as a space of dispute and resistance for women and sexual dissidents. Three Latin American researchers will analyze how this historically machista genre transformed into a platform for transgression and negotiation of feminine and diverse representations, reconfiguring the global music industry. With 328 million users listening to reggaeton monthly, we explore its impact on contemporary musical practices from a gender perspective, offering rigorous academic readings on the connection between the music industry, new audiences, and research. This discussion reveals an ongoing cultural transformation that redefines regional and global dynamics, positioning reggaeton as a critical site for understanding contemporary gender negotiations in popular music.
