Print has recently re-emerged as a viable medium. Publishers have developed innovative approaches in content and design to engage readers in the face of competition from digital alternatives. With concert-presenting organizations today spending considerable resources to create, print, and distribute programme books, this renewed emphasis on print suggests that there is a great—and yet, untapped—potential in the content and design of concert programme books to engage diverse audiences in fresh ways with classical music.

In this interactive session, we will first assess current practices in programme book publication. After determining opportunities for improvement and/or innovation, we will explore approaches to programme book content and design that could enhance audience engagement during the live concert experience and beyond, while considering how they can be implemented in print.
