Santrofi is a new, dynamic collective of celebrated young musicians from Accra’s music scene, gathered together by bassist and producer, Emmanuel Ofori, known for his work with Highlife legend, Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas’s Kwashibu Area Band. The aim is to celebrate classic highlife music, in all its diverse variants and assimilated styles from early period Afro-Cuban and calypso strains to funky soul workouts and the Nigerian influences of Afro-beat and juju grooves, expertly executed with the requisite rippling guitars, tight horn section, driving percussion and fine harmony vocals.
Not long after its formation, the band undertook its first international tour this year playing major festivals around Europe, including Roskilde, WOMAD, Sines and Amsterdam Roots. All this even before the release of their debut album on Outhere Records.
