Presented by Univ. Prof. Dr. Gerold Gruber (Austria), professor, University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna

with Ulrike Anton (Austria), vice-chair, Exilarte Center at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna

Exilarte is a research centre at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Its objective is to restore into the collective memory composers and performers who were persecuted, forced into exile, or murdered during National Socialism. Through its acquisition and collection of estates, musicological research, exhibitions, concerts and symposia, as well as seminars for students, Exilarte is returning those who were silenced to musical life; recalling musicians who were forgotten and filling an historic void. This presentation demonstrates aspects of the Exilarte Center’s work and will give an overview of its activities, illustrated through film clips, audio samples and images, including original manuscripts. We shall be highlighting Exilarte’s Music Editions, carried out in cooperation with international publishing houses, such as Boosey & Hawkes.
