Much-loved singer, guitarist and songwriter, Tito Paris has been a key figure in Cape Verdean music for over three decades. Born on the island of São Vicente in 1963, he was part of a musically gifted family and learned to play drums, guitar and bass at an early age. At the age of 19, he moved to Lisbon, at the invitation of morna star, Bana, to join his band, A Voz de Cabo Verde. He stayed in Lisbon as an in-demand guitar accompanist and started to compose songs for various artists, including Bana and Cesária Évora, recording his own first album in 1987. With his intimate style of melancholy mornas and upbeat coladeiras, Tito Paris has, at his own unhurried pace, become recognised as one of the the great ambassadors of Cape Verdean music in Portugal.
