Tallinn invites cities of music to meet up - to look into the motivation of the cities who have applied for the title. From Tallinn’s perspective there were several reasons. Regardless of our heritage and already vibrant music scene, we recognized that, not just the title, but actually the bidding process as well, allowed us to draw extra attention to the field of music, also get extra funding for new ideas and last but not least – to broaden international cooperation and be part of a network of cities with similar goals.

We will discuss what makes urban space friendly focusing not so much on accessibility, safety, pollution levels, transportation, special cohesion, 15-minute city, etc, but rather on the role of culture in making cities more attractive. Equally important is the immaterial environment, atmosphere free of prejudice, open and innovative. What are the tools to make a city as an ecosystem attractive for professional musicians, and to grow the audience for classical music more specifically?

Come join the discussion!
