Don't miss out on the last batch of films from our WOMEX 24 Film programme.
We conclude the presentation of our WOMEX 24 Film programme this May with a selection of four more films that you can watch from the comfort of your home. A touching feature follows the lives of a group of refugee torture survivors in the UK who, while navigating the UK's asylum system, join a band and create powerful songs together. Soul music dances gave rise to the Black Rio Movement after they became spaces for the political affirmation and resistance of the young Black community in Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s. Dive into Yogyakarta's thriving noise scene through a raw portrait of the city’s musical happenings, often taking place outdoors or in ad hoc locations; meet the founders of the Village Drums of Freedom who take us back to their early days in Trinidad & Tobago, during the island's recent independence, and learn about their culture of drumming.
Starting this Friday, 23 May, until Sunday, 1 June, all virtualWOMEX members will be able to stream the selected films:
Black Rio! Black Power! directed by Emílio Domingos
Got to Be Free – A Village Drums of Freedom Story directed by Jasmine Stein & Martina Lanfranchi
