Revealing The Official Film Selection For WOMEX 24

Still from the film: Sound System Sanskriti directed by Roy Dipankar

We are very excited to share with you the WOMEX 24 Film Programme that features a hand-picked selection of 18 music documentaries including new releases, preview screenings, and premieres and 3 film talks that will take place on-site in Manchester.

Every year, the WOMEX Film team curates the film programme driven by a set of goals: to create a Film selection that will inspire, motivate, entertain, and encourage dialogues and discussions on the most pressing global issues. The WOMEX Film Programme provides a platform for independent filmmakers to showcase their visionary stories to a global audience that values the power of storytelling and seeks fresh voices, new perspectives, and genuine connections.

This year’s programme addresses topics such as collective communities and sound, music as social protest, indigenous music as well as new ways of approaching folk by current generations; the ever-present and elusive quest for love; inclusivity with synaesthesia, immigration and politics, roots of electronic music in Northern England as well as brand new styles across the globe, female empowerment and much more.

The WOMEX 24 Film Programme is divided into Market and Public Screenings and the Film Library, a physical space that features an extended selection of films independent of a scheduled screening and can be watched by WOMEX delegates on-demand at any time. Information about the programme formats is here.
