Antonio Castrignanò is a leading figure in the ongoing revival of the musical traditions of the southern Italian region of Salento, which has brought the soulful energy of Pizzica and Tarantella to international attention. The singer, tamburella player and composer emerged from the 'house band' of the renowned La Notta della Taranta festival, which he has been part of since 2003, performing with artists such as The Chieftains, Goran Bregovic, Ballakè Sissoko, Trilok Gurtu and Ludovico Einaudi. In the meantime he has toured the world, composed film soundtracks and continued to develop his own contemporary edge to his Puglian roots. On his 2014 album, Fomenta, he explored the region's deeper Mediterranean connections to Turkey, North Africa and the Balkans. That album's cover bears the motto: "Whoever dances the pizzica will never die". Go for it.
