Taranta Night is not simply a concert: it’s a
musical event marking the passage of an
ancestral rite into an ethno – sound
phenomenon.
A kind of Mediterranean rave: 20 musicians on
the stage melting tradition and future in an
overwhelming performance.
Taranta Night is an incredibly powerful
project, half way between anthropological
fascination and modern sensation, between
the mythical biting spider and the stinging
Rock of the Police, thanks to the artistic
direction Stewart Copeland, former drummer
and creator of the legendary group.
Stewart Copeland has been making musical
research all over the world, particularly in
Africa, and has been appreciated as composer
of film sound-tracks.
Assisted by Vittorio Cosma, Copeland has
arranged several pieces of the traditional
repertory giving to percussive Taranta rhythms
different shades going from the Rock to
African resonances.
On the stage the afro-mediterranean voice of
Raiz and the powerful rhythms of the
Ensemble Bash weave a rhythmic and melodic
cobweb together with the traditional
tambourines and voices of the La Notte della
Taranta Ensemble.
