Ensamble B11's innovative style has breathed new life into Afro-Venezuelan percussion by incorporating beatbox – a cadre of human percussion articulators, a harmoniously hydra-headed vocal drum and bass section, producing the inter-flowing ingredients, through breath, for organic grooves that drive the multi-layered singing from the four-woman choir in a repertoire embodying the syncretism that distinguishes the musicality of the Venezuelan Caribbean. Ensamble B11 grew out of the Popular Culture Workshops at the Fundación Bigott in Caracas, which has been connecting succeeding generations of young Venezuelans to their cultural heritage for four decades. Under the vision of singer and musical director, Belkys Figueira, once a student, now a teacher at the institute, Ensamble B11 are set to become international ambassadors for that heritage while creating an organic fusion that places it in a contemporary spotlight.
