Links
Born in Alentejo, south of Portugal, Mara lives and breathes music. The art of singing accompanied her from her childhood days, where Fado was always present amidst her family.
In 2003 writes her first songs and begins her journey by collaborating in Bossa Nova and Portuguese music projects. Joins the Música nos Hospitais project (Music at Hospitals) and starts her studies at JB Jazz School in Lisbon.
In 2011 joined the Folk music group “Aqui há Baile, co-creating and recording of an album. This work is presented in Portugal, Spain, Italy and France.
Since 2012 Mara creates soundtracks for short films, theatre and dance performances.
In 2014 the meeting with Carlos Menezes (bassist and music director) leads to her first album “Folha de Rosto”, consisting mainly of original songs. This debut album has the contribution of Custódio Castelo (Portuguese guitar), Daniel da Silva (Flamenco guitar), Henrique Leitão (Portuguese guitar), Manuel Ferraz (Electric guitar), Rui Gonçalves (percussion) and Rui Travassos (clarinet).
She has been performing in some of the most important festivals in Portugal, Cabo Verde or Spain, including Womad Cáceres 2017.
