Elsy Wameyo

Kenyan-born Elsy Wameyo has emerged as one of Australia’s most compelling contemporary artists, a chameleonic creative who pours life’s lessons and lived experiences into dynamic, genre-defying music.
2022 saw the release of her long-awaited debut EP, Nilotic, a self-produced six-track fusion of soul-infused hip-hop and alternative R&B praised by The Guardian, Triple J, Acclaim, NME, Fashion Journal and Complex for its incisive lyricism and innovative production. The EP marked a defining moment in Elsy’s career, earning six South Australian Music Awards and establishing her as one of the country’s most exciting new voices.
Elsy cut her teeth as a captivating live performer alongside the likes of Sampa The Great and Aminé, while also receiving early recognition from internationally acclaimed artists including Tierra Whack and Tyler, The Creator. She has since toured extensively across Europe, performing at globally recognised festivals including Pitchfork Music Festival and Lollapalooza, following appearances at sold-out arenas throughout Australia.
In 2024, Elsy reached a new creative milestone with the release of her debut studio album, Saint Sinner. Exploring themes of fearlessness, self-reclamation and spiritual resilience, singles such as “Umva” and “Conquer” captured an artist confronting inner demons, temptation and external expectations in pursuit of peace and purpose. Saint Sinner represented a profound moment of healing, offering fulfilment not only to the artist Elsy has become, but also to the young girl whose spirit continues to guide her creative journey.
Continuing this evolution, Elsy released her self-titled EP, Wameyo, in 2026—her most personal body of work to date. Named after her family name, the project serves as a powerful exploration of identity, heritage and self-definition, embracing the essence of who she is both as an artist and as a person. The EP received national recognition with a nomination for Best Independent Rap Album or EP at the 2026 AIR Awards, further cementing Elsy’s place at the forefront of Australia’s independent music scene.
Elsy is currently working on Nilotic II, the highly anticipated follow-up to her breakthrough debut EP. Building on the foundations of Nilotic, the new project delves deeper into her Luo heritage, blending traditional Luo musical influences with contemporary rhythms to forge a bold new sound she describes as neo-Benga. Rooted in culture while looking firmly towards the future, Nilotic II represents the next chapter in Elsy Wameyo’s ongoing exploration of identity, belonging and artistic innovation.
