Mutoriah is a Kenyan artist, producer, multi-instrumentalist and music director creating a distinctive sound at the intersection of Afro-Electro Pop, Kenyan musical traditions and contemporary global music.
Based in Nairobi, Mutoriah is one of the country's most versatile musical forces. A pianist, guitarist, bassist, producer and songwriter, his work is driven by a deep belief that music should move beyond entertainment and inspire people to overcome fear, embrace who they are and share their light with the world.
His sound is unmistakably Kenyan while refusing to be confined by genre. Blending live instrumentation, traditional influences, electronic production and contemporary Afro-pop, Mutoriah creates music that is both deeply rooted and internationally accessible.
Mutoriah first introduced himself as a solo artist with his acclaimed 2019 debut album Dive In, a 12-track project featuring collaborators including Xenia Manasseh, Steph Kapela, Ayrosh, Njerae, Bensoul and his live collective Tha Movement. Songs including “Tosheka,” “Made Up of Love,” “Wangoro,” “Usiniringie,” “Mwanake Millennial” and “Maasai Power Trap” helped establish him as one of the most original emerging voices in Kenya's contemporary music scene.
His catalogue has continued to grow through releases including Happiness, the orchestral reimagining Mutoriah & the Orchestra 2024, and songs such as “Beta,” “Presha” featuring Serro, “Lonely,” “Nielewe” and “I Want” with Chris Kaiga.
In February 2026, Mutoriah released his latest album, We Don't Need Money to Be Rich, a 13-track Afro-Electro Pop project exploring spirituality, purpose, fulfilment and the idea that true wealth cannot simply be measured by money. The album features songs including “Bora” featuring Joshua Baraka, “Yes Loord!,” “Kavinya,” “Niamini” and “Múrimú Wa Wendo.”
Beyond his work as a solo artist, Mutoriah is the founder and musical force behind Tha Movement, an eclectic Kenyan live band formed from a collective of highly skilled instrumentalists. Together, Tha Movement has developed a reputation as one of Nairobi's most dynamic live outfits and has performed and collaborated with artists including Mercy Masika, Dela, Steph Kapela, Stella Mwangi and Alicios. The collective's own work includes releases such as “Roiko,” “Java Love,” “Mwingine” and the 2023 album Revelillusion.
Mutoriah's influence also extends behind the scenes. He has worked as a producer with some of East Africa's most important contemporary artists and has co-produced major records including Sauti Sol's “Rewind” featuring Khaligraph Jones, as well as “Lucy” and “Favorite Song” for Bensoul. His musical journey has also taken him to the international stage, including a performance at the ESSENCE Festival in the United States.
In 2026, Mutoriah expanded his international live footprint with an Australian tour, taking his music to audiences across Perth, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.
With an ever-expanding catalogue, a formidable live band and a rare ability to move seamlessly between artist, producer and instrumentalist, Mutoriah represents a new generation of African musicians creating music without borders.
