A symbol of Congolese diversity and creativity, the music of this immense country has survived the darkest periods in its existence. In many cases, it is deeply rooted in Congolese history and culture. It can be full of protest, or tinged with love or nostalgia; sometimes it’s funny, and often it’s downright impertinent; but it cannot leave us untouched. It inspires us to take action, or sets us dreaming and perhaps reflecting. The world is one big village, and the aspirations of 70 million Congolese people are expressed by its artists. This box set reflects the talent of some of the many groups and songwriters who carry the torch of Congolese music today!
