Steely Dan's Walter Becker about this group
One evening last spring, saxophonist Toon Roos
brought me to the Pompoen Jazz Club in Amsterdam where we
listened to an extraordinary set by a wonderful trio consisting of
guitarist Leonardo Amuedo, bassist Jeroen Vierdag and
drummer Lucas van Merwijk. All three players distinguished
themselves that night not only as individuals, but more
importantly, by their collective musicality and interplay as a
group.
Rarely do three players seem so well suited to each other as
Leonardo, Jeroen and Lucas; and rarely are fluency and
familiarity so well combined with freshness and
spontaneity. Moreover, they were able to communicate their joy
in music making to an enthusiastic audience, resulting
in some of the most satisfying live jazz I've experienced in a
while.
As I now discover, several great performances from
that week's engagement have been spectacularly
captured in this magnificent recording.
This is the coolest live jazz record I've heard in some time - it
captures the magic of great improvising musicians at work in
front of an appreciative audience in a fine sounding room.
Absolutely top notch in every respect - this highlyoriginal and
swinging trio is presented at their very best. What more could
anyone ask for?
