Renette Desir, like many contemporary Haitian talents, began singing in her church choir, where she started learning music theory. She expanded her classical training with violin studies at Vision nouvelle, a local music school. Through her singing with Technonvox, anotherchoir she later joined, the public discovered her exceptional voice.

Stongly influenced by gospel songs she regularly practiced, she is likewise drawn to the Jamaican reggae her brother made resound around their house. Later, her dance lessons introduced her to Haitian folk rhythms. This diversity in genres undoubtedly shaped her music to reflect a style of her own.
Her meeting with Haitian writer and poet Jean Claude Martineau started a fruitful collaboration producing most of her music, as she hit the public scene, performing on stage in Haiti and abroad. In November 2009, she was among the guest artists at the Parc de la Villette in Paris for the Tropical Christmas International Market event. Her vocal prowess amazed and charmed audiences at each of her performances. Her talent as a female vocalist quickly positioned her as the reference artist for Haiti's Ministry of Culture and for the Ministry for Women's Affairs and Women's Rights.

When the deadly earthquake of January 12, 2010 hit Port-au-Prince, Renette remained trapped under rubble at her collapsed Quisqueya University until rescuers helped her out the next day, while the girl friend at her side did not make it.
The Ministry of Culture asked her afterward to interpret a song in memory of all the women victims of the disaster. Meanwhile, the famous Haitian composer, Pierre Rigaud Chery confided her the words he was inspired by the whole tragedy. The collaboration, Yon Ti Chante (a little song in Creole) thus became one of the first post-earthquake songs, the emblem of a survivor nation.
Renette Desir currently focuses on her future projects among which the release of her first album and concerts abroad to represent Haiti.
