Job Description

The Tour Manager will work with the Nile Project’s Music Program Manager and CEO to successfully manage all on-the-ground aspects of the Nile Project’s 2017 US Tour. Nile Project tours are well produced and well advanced. The job of the Tour Manager is to implement, manage, and troubleshoot existing operational systems related to tour logistics, finance, concert/workshop tech, artist care, and reporting. A mature Tour Manager can rally people, lead our crew, and make hard decisions when necessary.

General Responsibilities

Logistics

Logistical coordinator — Act as the primary on-the-ground focal point for all tour logistics; implement and troubleshoot existing logistics systems
Work with Music Program Manager to fulfill contract obligations with concert/residency presenters; vendor relations
Travel — Manage all aspects of travel days for flights and ground transportation including but not limited to re-confirming reservations, group and/or individual schedules, managing baggage, preparation/packing, flight/bag check-in procedure, etc.
Baggage — Create and manage efficient and safe baggage systems for van and trailer packing/unpacking, hotel temporary storage, and pre/post-flight check-in/collection that incorporate easy identification of Nile Project baggage and count in/out.
Accommodation — Manage and troubleshoot all aspects of accommodation including but not limited to re-confirming reservations / booking additional accommodation when needed, check-in/out procedure, and clear communication of amenities to Artists and Staff.
Efficiently utilize and manage staff/crew of 2-3, schedule regular meetings
Schedule — Know the schedule inside and out, anticipate logistical problems before they happen, troubleshoot, act as primary buffer between tour operations and Artists/CEO
Manage Music Program Coordinator in order to clearly communicate daily schedule to Artists and Staff by use of day sheets and Google Calendar
Identify and execute/manage additional scheduling needs such as wake-up calls, new or adjusted call-times, early check-in and late check-outs, packing bags/trailer/vans in advance of all departures, unpacking, temporary storage, etc.
Driving and maintaining Nile Project-owned AND rental vans with trailer

Finance / Accounting

Work with the Nile Project operations team to ensure accurate accounting
Manage finance system, expense tracking, payment collection, and musician tour and per diem payments
Merchandise — Implement existing systems, manage inventory, supervise sales, manage crew/staff in count in/out and settlement, responsible for accuracy of all sales reports

Concert / Workshop Tech

Reporting to Music Program Manager and following their initial advance, the Tour Manager is the primary on-the-ground point of contact for tech and soundcheck
Final tech advancing / troubleshooting
Re-confirming arrival times, load-in/out locations
Lead the Load-in / Set-up / Load-out
Direct and lead the soundcheck from the stage / adhere to process / help maintain musician focus in order to achieve desired sound both on-stage and at FOH

Artist Care

Collect visa, tax, emergency medical and other documents as needed and fulfill requirements
Taxes — artist social security number applications and follow-up
Comp tickets — handle musician comp requests

Reporting

The Tour Manager will report directly to the Nile Project Music Program Manager.
Provide daily, weekly, and final tour reports
Additional reporting tools will be agreed upon in the beginning of his/her mandate.

Skills & Qualifications

3 – 5 years experience in tour management
Demonstrable tour management experience
Able to work in a mutli-cultural and multi-lingual environment

Requirements

US citizen or permanent resident; 3-5 years of touring experience in comparable position; valid driver’s license with clear driving record; production/technical/backstage knowledge – especially about audio and backline is a plus.
