At first, TmbaTa was a musical educational workshop led by Arik Grigoryan at Tumo Center for Creative Technologies in 2013, but after some years it became an independent band with lots of invitations to perform in and out of Armenia, international festivals and concerts such as “Folklife Festival” in Washington, DC. organised by the Smithsonian Institution, a performance in “New York City Center”, a concert in “St. Petersburg State Academic Capella”, “FIMU” Festival in France, “One Caucasus” Festival in Georgia, “Gothenborg Folk Festival” in Sweden and many more.
Tmbata's music is the new, modern interpretation of traditional Armenian folk music. TmbaTa’s repertoire mainly includes Armenian traditional folk songs which got mixed with modern genres and created a new, original and extraordinary genre. In short, TmbaTa is a World music, Avant Garde Folk, Folk-Rock band, with its unique way of thinking. The band had collaborations with local and international artists from Canada, The USA, The UK, Argentina, Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark,etc., also meetings and communications with Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Serj Tankian (SOAD), Charles Aznavour, Kanye West, Richard Bona, Boiler Room, etc.
