Barrut are seven singers and a percussionist who find the source for their powerfully compelling songs in the vocal polyphonies of the French region of Occitânia. They call the collective trance state to which they lead their audience ''a thread stretched across the abyss'', upon which you can dance “while the thunderstorms rage above our heads”. The Barrut team – Erwan Billon, Titouan Billon, Delphine Grellier, Olivier Grolleau, Samuel Grolleau, Audrey Hoyuelos, Maud Séguier and Jordi Cantagrill – lead us across, ensuring we do not lose our balance. They have been honing their skills for a decade, amassing a repertoire of original observations on memory, love and the madness of living, driven by insistent percussion and shifting vocal arrangements on songs spanning contemporary groove poetry and traditional polyphonic storytelling with sonorous resonance.
