"Powerful pan-African supergroup mixes feminism, heritage, and new talent in music."
Les Amazons d'Afrique, a pan-African feminist supergroup, is a powerful movement that brings together voices from various countries. They want to stand up for the rights of women and girls, whilst interweaving African heritage with new talent. Founded in Bamako in 2014 by the famous Malinese singers and activists Mamani Keïta, Oumou Sangaré and Mariam Doumbia, the group has grown into a powerful collective in which female artists from all over Africa and the diaspora participate, including Angélique Kidjo, Nneka and the Malian talent Rokia Koné.
Les Amazons d'Afrique combine their struggle for gender equality and peace with a powerful mix of pan-African genres, harmonic vocals and modern pop.
