Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino

Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino

Every summer, more than 100 00 thousand people gather at the Notte della Taranta to play and dance all night long, in the region of Apolia, in Southern Italy.

The Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino is part of the essentials of that event, which gathers all generations, and closes this 30 days roving Festival. This is the oldest and biggest music band of the Apolia focusing on the Pizzica, very fast dance belonging to the tarantella dance family. Founded in 1975 by Daniele Durante, and leaded since 2007 by his son Mauro, the septet honours with passion the fervour of the tarantellas.

On stage, 6 young musicians and their beautiful dancer of the Canzoniere, alternate between love ballads, and popular and rythmed songs of the tamburello salentino. Combining tradition and renewal, musical wealth and festive energy, they know how to lead and gather people. A positive state of mind which reminds the French Fest-Noz events.

Real discovery for the French audience (Marseille, Babel Med 2011 and Paris, Au Fil Des Voix Festival 2012), the band presents its album Focu d'amore, first release on the French territory.
